Discover history and nature in a walking tour of old St. Boniface. Begin at the Maison Gabrielle-Roy. Candace Savage will share work from Strangers in the House, an exploration of the challenging history of francophone settlers on the prairie, and Ariel Gordon will share work from Treed, her musings about our relationships with the natural world. Then the pair, both avid naturalists, will lead a nature walk along the Gabrielle Roy Winnipeg Trail.

Candace Savage is the award-winning author of more than two dozen books. Her writing for young people has been honored by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre and the New York Public Library. In 2010, she was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in recognition of her scholarly and artistic achievements. This year sees the publication of two books. Her book for adults is Strangers in the House (Greystone), an investigation into the history of anti-French sentiment embedded in her century home in Saskatoon. Her heart-warming picture book for young readers is Hello, Crow (Greystone Kids). Savage divides her time between Saskatoon and Eastend, Saskatchewan.
